Artificial intelligence and machine learning are being hailed as the future of data analytics. Computer models can analyze high volumes of real-time data to make more accurate market predictions. How are these powerful tools currently being leveraged by pharma data scientists, and what does the future hold for AI in the pharma industry?

PMSA is seeking presenters to help design a training seminar for our Winter Symposium in 2019. Thought leaders and consulting companies are being asked to help with this important and well-attended conference; only a few will be selected to speak, and only one company will be selected for the hands-on training workshop, from the results of this RFP.

The 2019 PMSA Winter Symposium will address, but not be limited to, the following questions:
  • What impact will AI have on behavioral science?
  • How can natural language processing improve pharma analytics projections?
  • How can next best action be used to more accurately predict the patient journey?
  • What are the best methods to analyze payer analytics and market access via machine learning?
  • How will AI improve the accuracy of rare disease analytics?
  • How should the analytics focus change with the product life cycle?
  • What are the best patient co-pay assistance strategies, and how can AI be leveraged to find better rebates and co-pay offerings to generate the most profitable mix?
The design of the Symposium is such that we will invite:
  1. One (1) trainer. For the hands-on training workshop, we will select one company with experience providing hands-on work in this area to lead the group of attendees through a practical workshop.
  2. Three - four (3 - 4) speakers. We are inviting a select few consulting companies and/or pharmaceutical manufacturers to discuss case studies with lessons learned and innovative ideas, methodologies, techniques, and processes.
The goals of the Symposium are to:
  • Foster sharing of ideas, challenges, and learning to increase overall level of knowledge and skill
  • Provide a training opportunity to ensure continued growth within Pharmaceutical Management Science
  • Encourage interaction and networking among peers
Potential speakers are invited to submit an abstract (Word document or PowerPoint) that clearly outlines methodology, data sources, and specific case studies. Due to the usually large number of submissions, the selection process is competitive.

TRAINING WORKSHOP Potential companies to run the training workshop are invited to submit an abstract (Word document or PowerPoint) that:
  1. Clearly outlines a proposed agenda for the training session
  2. Describes the technical approach for the hands-on component and/or proposed case studies to be reviewed.
The training workshop is expected to be 6 – 8 hours total.

The goals of the hands-on training workshop are:
  1. To provide a practical "take-home" experience that the participants can easily apply at their current companies. Participants will be asked to bring their laptops for this training, but we believe that the only software we can expect all participants to have preloaded is basic Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word). If additional software is required, it will need to be provided by the consulting company.
  2. To appeal to participants who have limited experience with the topics, while remaining equally challenging for more advanced researchers.
  3. To allow for some in-depth data manipulation or analysis that can be shared or reviewed in a small- or large-group format.
  4. To have some recommendations for "best practices" for analyzing and communicating results to upper management in a way that is concise, clear, and actionable.
SPEAKER PRESENTATIONS
Each speaker presentation is expected to be 45 ‐ 90 minutes.

Other Considerations:
  • Be sure to include credentials of the representative speaker(s) from your organization and de-identified industry examples of your work.
  • Please tell us what is unique about your contribution.
  • We have no objection to you mentioning your organization in the presentation; however, we would like to restrict content to methodology that can be shared in explicit detail with the group. In other words, please do not mention "black box" techniques that will not be able to be applied independently by each participant at their employing organization. Data sources and resulting predictive metrics will need to be shared in detail.
The PMSA Professional Development Committee will review the submissions and submitters will be contacted by October 22, 2018.

During the month prior to the Symposium, selected speakers will need to provide a draft copy of their presentation to the Professional Development Committee for final review and approval. Please also note that up to two speakers per workshop (2+ hours), and one speaker per session (1 hour) will be entitled to complimentary registration. Travel and hotel accommodations are the responsibility of the presenter.
