Vertex is seeking a Marketing scientist to join a newly created Marketing Science function in the Commercial organization and help build out a robust advanced analytics capability. In this high impact role, the Marketing Scientist will be charged with delivering cutting edge analytics and solutions to a variety of business questions in the Commercial domain using disparate datasets. Typical areas of focus include:
  • Identifying and understanding customer types, and predicting customer behaviors
  • Diagnosing specific business problems
  • Assessing effectiveness of commercial activities (personal, non-personal, digital) This individual must be highly self-driven, intellectually curious, passionate about using data and analysis to address real world problems, and facile with their tools.
Key responsibilities:

A. Deliver high quality marketing science projects using a variety of statistical and algorithmic approaches, analytical methodologies (including response modeling, machine learning) and visualization techniques to address business needs.
  • Identify appropriate methodology, data sets and advanced analytical tools
  • Manage the entire workflow - data wrangling, data exploration, model building, analysis and insights generation
  • Use data visualization to explore high-dimensional datasets and effectively communicate analyses
B. Effectively partner with the business to inform decision making
  • Maintain a pulse on the current business situation and identify opportunities for relevant analytics to inform decision making
  • Clearly communicate the story behind the analysis
  • Advise the business on the validity of conclusions and appropriate limitations
C. Stay on the cutting edge of their discipline and bring innovation into their work
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate new data sets, methodologies and tools
  • Maintain strong internal networks (with the Analytics team in the Commercial organization and the enterprise-level Data Science team), and build relevant external expert networks
Minimum Qualifications :
  • PhD in Computer Science, Operations Research/Management Science, Statistics or a related computational and quantitative discipline and 3+ years of relevant work experience; or a Master’s degree in one of these fields and 6+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience applying data science approaches and advanced analytics to problems in the marketing and sales domain, preferably in the pharmaceutical sector, e.g., marketing mix optimization, test & control analysis for measuring program effectiveness, uplift modeling, predictive analytics for adherence
  • Familiarity with online and digital marketing, and working with digital metrics
  • Expertise with programming languages such as R, Python, JavaScript, or others.
  • Expertise with data visualization techniques; Tableau experience desirable
  • Proven track record of rapid prototyping and development of analytics solutions
  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. SQL).
  • Strong data analysis skills and ability to integrate information from different sources to generate testable hypotheses.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with uncertainty.
  • Able to independently set and drive agenda
  • Strong communication skills – able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
